Where biotech, AI and quantum converge
Sahlgrenska Science Park is leading the development of a national BioConvergence initiative at the intersection of biotechnology, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies.
The initiative has received approximately SEK 1.1 million in planning support from Vinnova to establish a strong foundation for realizing the vision of a globally leading BioConvergence Excellence Cluster, positioning Sweden at the forefront of next-generation life science and health innovation.
The initiative brings together actors across health, data and technology to shape a shared vision, initiate international partnerships and define a long-term collaboration and implementation roadmap.
Why BioConvergence
BioConvergence creates new opportunities to address complex healthcare and societal challenges by integrating biological innovation with advanced digital technologies.
It enables progress in areas such as:
precision health and diagnostics
data-driven research and innovation
scalable and sustainable life science solutions
By connecting disciplines and sectors, BioConvergence accelerates the translation of research into real-world impact.
A strong cross-sector collaboration
The initiative is coordinated by Sahlgrenska Science Park in collaboration with more than 20 partners from across Sweden’s life science and technology ecosystems.
The partnership spans:
academia and research
healthcare and public sector
startups, SMEs and established industry
innovation and collaboration platforms
Together, the partners contribute complementary expertise at the intersection of biotech, AI and quantum technologies.
Planning phase
During the planning phase, October 2025 - March 2026, the partners will jointly:
identify strengths, competence needs and collaboration gaps
conduct international benchmarking and knowledge exchange
initiate strategic international partnerships
define a clear and ambitious vision and implementation roadmap for a future excellence cluster
The work is designed to ensure both strategic alignment and practical feasibility for long-term cluster development.
Long-term ambition
The bioconvergence initiative aims to strengthen Sweden’s global competitiveness and international leadership in BioConvergence-driven life science innovation.
By building durable cross-sector collaboration structures, the initiative seeks to accelerate scientific breakthroughs, support successful companies, and enable faster implementation of innovation across healthcare and industry.
