How we create impact

Accelerating tech for health
Through CO-AX Accelerator, early-stage healthtech companies gain access to tailored business development, regulatory guidance, clinical expertise, test and validation environments, strategic partners, investors, and international markets, accelerating their path from innovation to implementation and growth.
Since 2005, CO-AX has supported 150 startups and innovation projects with deep tech companies representing approximately two-thirds of the portfolio.
Environments for innovation
Located at the heart of Medicinareberget, Health Innovation Labs provides life science companies with direct access to a world-class ecosystem of healthcare, research and industry.
Through shared laboratories, advanced equipment, specialist expertise and a collaborative community, we create the conditions for companies to accelerate development, forge strategic partnerships and bring innovative solutions to patients and markets.

Accelerating collaboration
We unite national and international stakeholders to develop and deliver collaborative innovation initiatives, secure strategic funding, and accelerate the translation of research, technology and data into solutions that strengthen healthcare and drive growth in areas such as precision health, ATMPs, health data and AI.
Our experience working within European frameworks enables strong cross-border collaboration, structured implementation, and measurable results. Together with our partners, we contribute to a more sustainable and personalised healthcare and more resilient and competitive life science industry.

“At Mirno we are highly motivated to make rapid progress and a normal week for us is filled with many questions on how best to move forward with our goals. Our coaches at CO-AX have a wealth of experience in supporting Medtech startups, which has helped us to make moves with confidence. We can recommend CO-AX because even in a few short months, we’re seeing tangible results.”
David Gundry
CEO, MIRNO

“Gothenburg stands out for its ability to collaborate across boundaries – between academia, industry, and healthcare, but also internationally. This makes the region both relevant and attractive in the European life science landscape."
Montse Daban Marín
Strategic Foresight Director, Biocat.

“Turning vision into reality takes more than good science. Health Innovation Labs gives us exactly the environment we need: affordable lab space with shared equipment, incredibly supportive site managers and a vibrant network of fellow startups. It’s hard to imagine a better place to build a science-based company.”
Naomi Lyons
CEO, Catalium

"Sahlgrenska Science Park has demonstrated it can bring together diverse stakeholders around important issues and challenges to drive change. Their leadership in collaborative projects helps to strengthen West Sweden as a leading hub for life science."

From innovation to investment
Connecting promising companies with relevant capital
Access to specialized growth capital remains one of the greatest challenges for healthtech companies. Long development timelines, regulatory complexity and the need for clinical validation require investors with both sector expertise and a long-term perspective.
Sahlgrenska Science Park actively bridges the gap between innovative companies and qualified investors, helping founders build the relationships and investment readiness needed to scale their businesses.
A key initiative is HealthTech Venture Pulse, our curated, invitation-only forum that connects a carefully selected group of high-potential Swedish healthtech companies with leading investors. By facilitating meaningful dialogue and high-quality deal flow, the event creates opportunities for investment, strategic partnerships and long-term growth.

Impact stories
Connecting Europe around personalized medicine
Sahlgrenska Science Park is proud to be a core partner in PRECISEU – an EU Horizon Europe project aimed at removing barriers and creating the foundation for equitable access to personalised healthcare across Europe.
Personalised medicine can enable targeted prevention, diagnosis and treatment. But scaling these approaches requires regions and healthcare systems to share knowledge and connect resources.
The initiative brings together 25 partners from 12 European regions across ten EU Member States.
Why it matters?
Regional strengths create greater impact when connected internationally.
Personalized healthcare does have the potential to transform health outcomes, but achieving this requires strong collaboration across regions, disciplines and innovation ecosystems. PRECISEU connects leading innovation ecosystems across Europe to accelerate the transfer of knowledge, best practices and solutions, enabling advanced healthcare innovations to reach patients faster.

Building skills for the next generation of therapies
Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products
To strengthen Sweden’s position in advanced therapies and address growing skills needs, a new initiative with SEK 26.7 million in funding has been launched. This brings together healthcare, academia and industry to build long-term competence in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), helping ensure access to the specialised expertise required for clinical development, manufacturing and implementation of gene and cell therapies.
Why it matters
Future therapies require future capabilities.
Realising the potential of advanced therapies requires more than scientific breakthroughs. It depends on having the right skills, infrastructure and cross-sector capabilities to translate innovation into industrial growth, healthcare implementation and patient benefit. By strengthening expertise in emerging technologies such as gene and cell therapies, Sweden is building the workforce and capacity needed to remain competitive, attract clinical trials and accelerate the adoption of next-generation treatments.
Co-action addressing Global Health Challenges
The Sahlgrenska Global Health Hackathon was a unique project in 2025, designed to address world health challenges through collaboration and co-creation.
During the year, the initiative engaged +1,000 participants across six countries, bringing together researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, students, industry experts and innovators. Through eight hackathons, participants collaborated to develop 75 new ideas and solutions aimed at improving global health outcomes.

Connecting the ecosystem
Meeting places are an important part of how we connect the life science ecosystem.
Sahlgrenska Science Park has hosted and coordinated more than 895 seminars and networking events, engaging approximately 40,000 participants. Among them is Park Annual, our flagship event and one of West Sweden's leading life science meeting places, bringing together leaders from healthcare, academia, industry, investment and the public sector to shape the future of health innovation.
Through the Gothenburg Health Innovation Network we bring together key stakeholders across the ecosystem to catalyze collaboration, drive health innovation and strengthen West Sweden's position as a leading life science and precision health hub.
Towards 2030
Connecting promising companies with relevant capital
Sahlgrenska Science Park has evolved from a local incubator and business center into a regional life science innovation hub with national and international reach. Towards 2030, our ambition is to contribute to a nationally and internationally recognized innovation hub and a world-class life science region with sustainable, globally competitive companies.
We will focus on three outcomes:
More innovations improving health and reaching real-world use
More internationally competitive life science companies
A stronger, globally connected and internationally recognized West Swedish life science ecosystem
