Akademiska Hus has received a positive planning decision from the City of Gothenburg for the continued development of Medicinareberget. The ambition is to better connect the area with the city and create space for research, education, housing, services and a leading life science cluster.
Medicinareberget is located in central Gothenburg, north of Sahlgrenska University Hospital and southeast of Linnéplatsen. The area is currently home primarily to facilities for research and education in medicine, bioscience, natural sciences and technology at the University of Gothenburg, as well as Sahlgrenska Science Park.
Currently the area has relatively few connections to the surrounding city and large parts of it are difficult to access. The planning decision means that work on a new detailed development plan can now begin.
The proposal includes the potential for around 200,000 square metres of new development, with space for laboratories, offices, research and education facilities, housing and public services. The City of Gothenburg plans to begin the detailed planning process in the first quarter of 2027.
