Digital Simulation Is Shaping Tomorrow’s Care Teams – Mirno Brings Teamwork Innovation to Gothenburg

Meet the people shaping life science in Gothenburg — featuring individuals who bring unique perspectives, drive innovation, and inspire both local and global impact.
Mirno has developed a digital simulation platform, Cinemedic Pro, that enables healthcare teams – doctors, nurses, and more – to practice communication and decision-making in realistic, high-pressure scenarios. Supported by AI, the platform is designed to improve performance, reduce risks, and ultimately enhance patient safety.
“Gothenburg offers something truly unique: openness to innovation, a strong culture of collaboration, and incredible proximity between education, healthcare, and startups,” says Ian Alexander Shiels, CPO and co-founder of Mirno.

Training Tomorrow’s Healthcare Teams
Since spring 2024, Mirno has been part of the CO-AX Accelerator at Sahlgrenska Science Park, where they have launched a groundbreaking collaboration with the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Medical and nursing students now use Mirno’s digital platform to practice teamwork across professional roles.
“We see huge potential in supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals. Giving students a safe, digital space to train complex team situations improves their readiness to act under real pressure,” says David Gundry, CEO and co-founder of Mirno.
The program gives students structured experience in interprofessional collaboration – an area crucial to patient outcomes, yet historically difficult to simulate effectively. The initiative has gained attention for its innovative format and potential to scale across healthcare and education. Read more here.

Part of Sweden’s Leading HealthTech Innovation Accelerator
Mirno is one of several international startups that have chosen Gothenburg as their base for European expansion. Through the CO-AX Accelerator at Sahlgrenska Science Park – recently recognized as one of Sweden’s top incubators for health innovation – startups gain access to clinical insights, expert mentorship, investor networks, and a strong peer community.
“We could have set up anywhere. The reason we chose Gothenburg was the close connection to hospitals and universities – and the opportunity to grow in one of Europe’s most exciting health innovation hubs,” says Ian Alexander.
CO-AX Accelerator brings together global startups working at the intersection of digital health, medtech, and deep science. It offers strategic coaching, business development, and direct access to industrial and academic partners across the region.
Where Innovation Meets Real-World Impact
The Gothenburg region continues to attract startups, researchers, and global initiatives across the life science spectrum. With large-scale investments in Sahlgrenska Life, GoCo Health Innovation City, CCRM Nordic, and a strong collaborative mindset, the city is creating the conditions needed for testing, scaling, and deploying new health solutions.
“Gothenburg is not just welcoming innovation – it’s embedding it into the healthcare system. That’s exactly what we need to build the future of care,” concludes David Gundry.
