The award recognises a company working at the intersection of bioelectronics, wound care and digital health which marks an exciting milestone in Bioelectrix’s journey towards bringing a new approach to the treatment of hard-to-heal and chronic wounds closer to clinical application.
From bioelectronic innovation to wound healing
Bioelectrix is developing a wearable medical device that combines biocompatible electrical stimulation with real-time wound monitoring.
The technology is designed to restore the body's natural electrical signals involved in wound healing, with the ambition of supporting tissue repair while providing healthcare professionals with better insight into wound progression and potential complications.
In ex-vivo human skin models, Bioelectrix has demonstrated wound healing up to three times faster. The company is now progressing its technology through the preclinical stage, while strengthening its intellectual property and preparing its regulatory pathway towards a future medical device.
Bioelectrix joined CO-AX, the Sahlgrenska Science Park accelerator, in January 2026.
Since then, the company has worked closely with the CO-AX team to strengthen several important areas of its development journey including its regulatory pathway, clinical validation strategy, financing and investor readiness.
That is where a strong innovation ecosystem can make a difference.
A milestone worth celebrating
At Innovation Night, Bioelectrix was one of eight startups from across Sweden selected to pitch their innovation. Bioelectrix ultimately took home the Disruptor of the Year 2026 award and SEK 100,000 in prize money.

"Receiving this award is a meaningful validation of our vision to more wound care from passive to active care. It highlights both the potential of our technology and the dedication of our incredible team. As we move forward, we hope this recognition will help open new doors for partnerships and investment, bringing us one step closer to improving outcomes for patients with hard-to-heal wounds." - Caroline Johansen, Founder and CEO, Bioelectrix
“The jury described Bioelectrix’s pitch as exceptionally elegant and I completely agree. Caroline presented the company’s potentially disruptive technology with remarkable clarity and confidence. I am incredibly proud, and at this crucial fundraising stage, the recognition is especially valuable. ” says Emma Hallenberg, Director at CO-AX
The company is currently raising approximately SEK 10 million to support these next steps.
Bioelectrix has already taken several important steps along that path from developing its bioelectronic technology and establishing an intellectual property position to validating the concept in ex-vivo human skin models and beginning its EU regulatory strategy.
We are proud to support Bioelectrix through this stage of its journey and look forward to seeing how the company continues to develop its technology, evidence and partnerships.
