Project: Skills supply for future medicines

Sahlgrenska Science Park is leading a pre-study project, part of West Sweden's smart transition initiative, addressing the need for unique skills in advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).

The goal of the pre-study is to mobilize organizations active in life science in West Sweden to develop a joint, well-anchored work plan that clarifies the competency needs and the critical initiatives required to meet future skills needs in the area of ATMPs.

Key question for pre-study

What is collectively required by West Sweden's life science community between 2024-2027 to secure skills supply within the ATMP area?

This main question includes two sub-questions:
i) what skills needs are seen within the ATMP area? ii) what activities are needed to meet these needs?

Then, in a next step implementation phase, be able to build a common platform and structure to achieve this.

The challenge

Due to the global race underway, there is a shortage of ATMP-related skills and talent. It is particularly difficult for Sweden, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises and the public sector, to recruit.

The opportunity

Advanced therapies based on cells, tissues, and genes create opportunities to revolutionize care with the potential to cure the previously incurable.

The solution

West Sweden is focused on developing tailored ATMP skills through collaboration among universities, businesses and healthcare, addressing current needs and establishing a joint platform for future growth.
